At the London Construction Programme (LCP), we believe that public sector frameworks can be a powerful tool for change. In addition to delivering best value, we have identified three key objectives that we will work on collaboratively with our contractors and our partners throughout the life of our frameworks.
Delivering Social Value
Mental Health and Wellbeing
The construction industry has the highest suicide rates of any sector in the UK. This is a stark reminder of the urgent need to prioritise mental health. Evidence shows that organisations that actively support the mental wellbeing of their workforce also benefit from improved productivity, morale, and retention. Through our frameworks, we aim to promote a culture of openness, support, and proactive mental health awareness across the sector. The LCP is dedicated to partnering with charities such as Mates in Mind to support workforce wellbeing.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The sector is grappling with an ageing workforce, a widening skills gap, and persistent issues around poor behaviours on site. These challenges make it increasingly difficult to attract and retain a diverse, skilled workforce. We are committed to working with contractors to improve site culture, invest in training and apprenticeships, and create inclusive pathways into construction for underrepresented groups. To tackle this, we have partnered with the social enterprise Serious About Youth, to upskill young people from diverse backgrounds to improve employability and diversify the workforce. This opportunity has allowed for young people to gain hands on experience with contractors on our frameworks.
Tackling the Climate Emergency
Achieving Net Zero targets requires more than ambition, it demands collaboration, innovation, and shared learning. We are focused on working with forward-thinking suppliers who are committed to sustainable construction practices and who are willing to share their insights and innovations to help raise standards across the industry.
Through our Core Group meetings, we will bring together contractors and client organisations to drive consistency, share best practice, and raise standards in these critical areas. Together, we can help shape a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable construction sector.
